Come visit the Rainforest! Rainforests generally rain all year round but in the dry seasons from July to December it only rains occasionally. In the wet season, it rains more than an inch a day! The largest rainforest is the Amazon Rainforest. Species in the rainforest often work together or use symbiosis, like when the plants produce sugar for the ants.

The Congo Rainforest is the 2nd largest rainforest in the world. It is 1.5 million square miles, it has 600 tree species and 10,000 animal species such as:
-African forest elephants
-Gorilla
-Black Colobus Monkey
-Pygmy hippopotamus
-Spiny Lizard
-Venus fly traps-Orchids-Buttress roots -Kapok trees
Rainy season is December to June (73-86 degrees) Dry from July to November (78 to 104 degrees).

                                            Adaptations
The Walking Stick has camouflage because it looks just like a stick.
Some rainforest butterflies wings look just like leaves on the trees they live on.
The 3 toed sloth moves very slow and looks just like bark so predators can never tell something is there.
Many plants in the rainforest make adaptations, too. For example, most plants have dry tips because it rains so much. Plants also have huge leaves that allows them to soak up a lot of sunlight. Some plants like ferns grow higher up in the canopy where there is more sunlight.

                                           Random Facts
Very close to sea level and humidity is about 75% in JulyThe trees in the rainforest are so dense that rain falling on the canopy can take about 10 minutes to reach the ground. The Congo rainforest is pretty much right on the equator so it doesn't have many seasonal changes. Part of a rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed every second.
